Services
The Faculty of Decorative Arts provides a wide range of academic services to society, including organizing design competitions and awards, offering platforms for disseminating academic and creative works through journals and exhibitions, and sharing design knowledge through social media articles, short courses, and online art platforms. The Faculty also conducts design skill assessments for youth to support talent development.
Designer of the Year Awards
Silpakorn University initiated this culturally driven program to support Thai designers and creativity. Since 2004, it has continuously elevated design standards and recognition, with the Faculty of Decorative Arts leading the initiative in collaboration with national organizations to promote Thai design on the global stage.
National Youth Design Awards
A nationwide platform that encourages young designers to showcase their creativity and develop professional design skills. The competition aims to nurture emerging talents, promote innovation, and connect design education with industry and society through diverse design disciplines.
SILPA Creative Works Exhibition
A national-level exhibition organized by the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University, showcasing selected creative works from artists and designers across Thailand. It serves as a platform to present contemporary design and artistic practices, promoting innovation, knowledge exchange, and the visibility of emerging and professional creators.
DEC Skill Test
An art and design proficiency examination organized by the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University, to assess fundamental skills in drawing and design across multiple disciplines. It serves as both a talent development platform and an alternative pathway for admission, as high scores can be used in place of a portfolio for TCAS applications.
DEC Skill Boost
a preparatory program organized by the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University, aimed at enhancing fundamental art and design skills for prospective students. It focuses on developing abilities such as drawing, design thinking, and creative processes, helping participants build readiness for further study and admission in design programs.
DEC Expertise
an academic service initiative offering short courses, workshops, and seminars on a fee-based basis. Leveraging the expertise of faculty members, the program aims to disseminate design knowledge and skills to the broader public.
DEC Exposure
A project by the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University, supported by the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, that provides free access to art and design resources—starting with Thai decorative patterns—to support creative use and promote the preservation of cultural heritage.

DEC Extract
A series of design articles written by faculty members of the Faculty of Decorative Arts and published on the Faculty’s Facebook page in both Thai and English. The project aims to raise public awareness of the importance of design in driving social development.
DEC Journal
An academic journal published by the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University, and is currently indexed in TCI Tier 2. The journal welcomes research articles and academic papers from both scholars and the general public, providing a platform for the dissemination of knowledge in art and design.
Academic Services for Sustainable Development (SDGs)
The Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University, actively engages in academic services that contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through collaborations with communities, public organizations, and industry partners, the Faculty applies design knowledge to support cultural preservation, promote sustainable production, and enhance community livelihoods. These initiatives reflect a commitment to quality education (SDG 4), sustainable communities (SDG 11), responsible consumption and production (SDG 12), and partnerships for sustainable development (SDG 17).
In collaboration with the SUPPORT Foundation of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, and the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, Ministry of Culture, presents an exhibition of design works based on traditional craft products as part of its academic service to society. Through this collaboration, faculty members contribute their design expertise to develop product prototypes that reinterpret Thai handicrafts into contemporary lifestyle products—such as jewelry, fashion, and home décor—while supporting the Foundation’s mission to preserve cultural heritage and empower underprivileged rural artisans to create sustainable income and livelihoods.
The Department of Fashion Design, Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University, in collaboration with Thai Beverage Public Company Limited and the Environmental Impact and Sustainability Alliance (EISA), organized a field-based program under the “Handwoven Pha Khao Ma Development Project, Academic Year 2025” as an academic service to society. Working with a local silk community in Buriram, the project supported knowledge exchange on traditional weaving and natural dyeing while promoting cultural preservation, sustainable practices, and socially responsible design education.
The Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University, extends its academic services to society through projects such as “Clay and Dharma,” which bring art-based learning into prisons to support the rehabilitation of inmates. By integrating Buddhist art practices with creative processes, the program fosters mental healing, mindfulness, and personal transformation, while equipping participants with practical artistic skills for future livelihoods. This initiative not only promotes social reintegration and dignity among inmates but also bridges understanding between prisons and society through art, empathy, and shared human values.
