Acrylic Paint, Colour Pencils, Metallic Markers, 10" x 10" Image Area
The purpose of this project was to create the illusion of depth and perspective with the principles of design and Itten’s colour contrasts, particularly the light-dark contrast.
I started this project by creating several thumbnails to help me decide on the final composition of this project. I chose a thumbnail that would best serve the purpose of this project and meet the objective. The thumbnail that I selected was inspired by a photo of a wine bottle cabinet that I had previously captured. This helped to establish the overall composition of the piece.
Next, I developed a colour scheme for the piece. I decided to go with colours that were vibrant and had a high contrast since I was going to produce my final concept on black paper. With the help of acrylic paint, I created several colour charts to help me understand light-dark contrast and help me create the illusion of depth. This helped me choose acrylic paint as one of my mediums.
The second step was to create a mini concept, which would help me choose various mediums that I wanted to use to create my final design. Apart from acrylic paint, I decided to use colour pencils since it was easy to transition from value to value while producing a smooth texture, similar to glass. I also used metallic markers to capture the texture of the foil or aluminum wrapping and labelling around the wine bottles.
