Canva, 11" x 17" Poster Size
The purpose of this project was to promote an imagined event, specifically a workshop, that will highlight and address a social sustainable issue, which in this case is the importance of diversity in the film industry. This would open the door to underrepresented groups, specifically BIPOC, in the film industry and those who are interested in this opportunity. This workshop was to be held in one of Toronto’s popular film theatres, the TIFF Bell Lightbox. It would be run in partnership with TIFF and BIPOC Film & TV, as they have connections to industry professionals. The skills and knowledge obtained through this workshop could be applied to individual creativity and interests, particularly within specific sectors of the film industry. In addition to this, the poster design helped to understand and explore typography, layout, hierarchy and other important aspects of poster design.
The first step of this project was to conduct research on poster design, the social sustainable issue itself, similar events, poster competitions, and the design criteria given.
The second step was to create thumbnails, which helped to establish the overall design of the poster. Different illustrations, typography, and notes can be seen in the sheet below.
The third step of this project was to create use the feedback received for the thumbnails, chose one thumbnail, and create several digital concepts or mockups. In these concepts, different layouts, typography, colour palettes, and illustrations were explored. After receiving feedback from peers, the final design was created.
