Echoes of Emptiness is a co-op horror game meant for 2 players.
The first player, the pilot, cannot see anything. Despite this, they must navigate the maze and avoid the roaming monster within to power a series of generators.
The second player, the copilot, must assist the pilot by providing directions and entering helpful commands into the console - e.g., to open doors or power generators.
This game was made by myself and another student for the Experimental Games Production module at University of Staffordshire.
The video shown here was created by my teammate, but demonstrates the gameplay as we intended.
I did a large portion of the design work for the project, and my duties this time were more concept-leaning. This mostly lay in the realm of systems design; I was responsible for the design of key systems like the pilot's movement, the various commands the copilot can use, and the behaviour of the enemy.
Alongside this, I also needed to create physical mission briefings - documents we printed out and handed to playtesters - that both players would read before entering the game to add to the experience, as an alternative to any sort of tutorial.
