Mounts / Stands / Risers

Note: This is new and development.

Stands and Mounts allow you to orient specimens and elevate them, providing a more pleasing aesthetic view. Some mounts also allow you to apply labels containing information about the specimen. Risers allow you to provide different viewing profiles.....Kids in the back stand on boxes for the photo. Below are several types of stands and mounts that I have personally found useful. For each item, I have included suggested search phrases that may help locate them online. While general internet searches are effective, many users report good results when searching on platforms such as Alibaba, AliExpress, Amazon, eBay, Etsy, and Temu. The platforms are listed in alphabetical order.

Search for the following:

Note you can add "Round", "Square", and size to the search.

I have seen them following sizes:

40 x 40 mm (1.57 x 1.57 in) 70 x 70 mm (2.75 x 7.75 in)

50 x 50 mm (2 x 2 in) 80 x 80 mm (3.15 x 3.15 in)

60 x 60 mm (2.36 x 2.36 in) 101 x 101 mm (4 x 4 in)

Acrylic blocks. You can get them in several sizes. These are:

3x3x1 inch / 2x2x1 inch / 1x1x1 inch.

Search for:

Here is a place I've ordered from before and they have several sizes. You can get 16 that are a mix of 3x3x1 and 2x2x1 inch for $35.

Acrylic tiles. Like the blocks above but thinner (normally 1/4 inch). Lots of sizes. I really like them for smaller specimens...say 1 inch or less.

Zlazr is a seller on Ebay that I have used and had good luck with.

If you are looking beveled side mounts or more unusual / custom mounts, check out Display Base Company Note I gave not used them but I've heard good things in the Facebook groups.

Another method is to mill out part of the stand/mount so the specimen sets into the mount. Everett Harrinton offers this service. I believe his business page is Minerals Plus. Note he also does text engraving onto the mounts.

Risers are just portable shelves. They are nice for displays because it elevates specimens in the back. Search for "Acrylic Risers Display Stands"
