2024 Program Overview

Field Trip

Our four-day adventure begins with two activities off-campus.  A field trip to Marshall, MN and the Buffalo Ridge Concrete Ready Mix plant and alternately a trip the SMSU Planetarium.  The Wednesday afternoon, August 21, 2024 schedule, will allow you to participate in both of these activities.  Registration materials will provide the details.

Singing

An important and essential element in daily living is song.  This tradition, led by Asta Twedt and Laura Stransky, has its foundation in the songs of The World of Song, plus many other sources.  Occasionally a chosen song can be sung in Danish and English, combining the languages in a beautiful harmony.

Stories

We love listening to stories, fact or fiction, a wonderful way to learn.  At the Folk Meeting we incorporate storytimes where we hear a whimsical tale or a personal life story.

Lectures

At the heart of the Folk Meeting are the lectures.  They bring us the "living word," as defined by Grundtvig, while giving us many opportunities to learn, question and discuss.

Experiential Learning

A hands-on approach to your choice of activity.  Friday afternoon choose from rock balancing, Cricket, pie or kransekage baking, reader's theatre, or art gallery or rest and read a book.
