An Evening of Dance with DJ Ed Petro
Sunday 1st September 2024 from 3pm until 8pm
Join Ed on Sunday 1st September 2024 for a magical evening of dance, to include smooth Modern Jive (also suited to Silc), Alternative Tango, Expressive Blues, and funky West Coast Swing. FREE Jive and Tango fusion class from 3pm - 4pm, social dancing from 4pm.
Ed's love affair with dancing started in the early 1980s in Seattle, Washington, where he joined a Country & Western dance club, learning partner dancing. Later, he moved on to Salsa and Latin dance lessons.
In the early 90s, Ed took a break from partner dancing and started learning line dancing in Oklahoma City. Upon returning to Seattle in the mid-90s, Ed joined Sonny’s Argentine Tango Dance Studio, where he fell madly in love with Tango. At the same time, West Coast Swing (WCS) was becoming the hottest dance in Seattle, so Ed joined the Seattle WCS Academy for the next three years.
During this time, Ed, along with several dancing friends, introduced a fusion of Argentine Tango and WCS, known as SWANGO. After moving to the UK, Ed discovered Modern Jive, which was very popular in Yorkshire. While maintaining his passion for Tango, Ed fulfilled his dream of making a pilgrimage to Argentina, taking an extended holiday in Buenos Aires to study with local masters.
Currently, Ed is a lifetime staff member of Revolution Dance, DJ-ing and teaching Argentine Tango and Fusion classes during weekenders and holidays. Ed has been a guest teacher for various dance events, including PaP in Scotland. He also established an Argentine Tango community, teaching at Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton, and founded the SWANGO Club at the Engine Shed.
Your host, DJ and caterer, Dawn.
