Francia has had a long and storied history within Europa, often considered to be the predominant power within the continent and even when operating as a lesser force, the influence and mark of the Franks has been felt throughout the centuries. Following the Frankish Revolution that saw to overthrow the weakening and increasingly bloated Frankish Monarchy, Francia was left in a state of turmoil as the Illuminated leaders of the Revolution proved to be mad and petty tyrants in their own right, this vacuum left an opening for a young military officer to step in. Carlo Beaucaire, would rise to power and stabilize the crumbling republic, he would lead a reinvigorate and driven Francia against their Europan rivals. Under his rule Francia became once more an Empire, a New Carolingian Order. Carlo Beaucaire would vanish in 1815, his army left to his generals that would attempt to fight for their own glory, only to be wiped out by the Grand Coalition led primarily by the Britannians and the Borussians, but made up of many more allies. With this came an end to the Frankish Empire, and after that came a series of different governments during the 19th century ending in the reestablishment of the Republic.
The Frankish Republic would side with the Kievan-Rus Empire in 1909, honoring its defensive pact against the Rhinelanders and its allies. The war would come to be known as the Europan War, as the whole continent was engulfed in fighting, with the battles stretching further across the colonial lands across the old world. In 1912 the Americans would intervene to bring a forced end to the war, as towards the east a terrible threat had been uncovered, the Kiber-Tvar. Strategically this came at a fortunate time for the Frankish forces, as despite their offensive push, the writing was on the wall, if the war dragged on the Rhine would be able to push inwards with a renewed effort as the Kievan-Rus had been defeated.
Led by the former Maréchal de Francia, Lyon, formed by the splintered forces that were exiled by Vasseur during his assumption of power. The Lorraine Legion is a shadow of what the once Grand Legion of the Franks was, yet what they lack in men, they make up for in dedication and experience, and a righteous desire to overthrow the mad man that has burned their homeland and its people. Having to now work alongside the Rhinelanders, and receiving direct aid from the Americans, the Legion finds itself hardened by this. They must prove that they are still capable, it is a matter of honor and dignity, one that is perhaps lost on the Americans.
Lyon Pierre Rhône
Disgraced and exiled to the colonies, Lyon did not regret his choices, he did what he had to do to save Francia. The popular story of how Vasseur would have changed the course of the war was all nonsense, by the time of the Summer Offensive, the Rhinelans had already defeated the Kievan-Rus Empire to the east, Italia was making no head way against the Osterlans, the Britannians had been stuck in the mud with them already, but they were also spread across the Mediterranean and attempting to hold the fracturing Ophidian empire from collapsing in a way unfavorable to them. The Americans arrived and put an end to it all, they did not take a side in what they called Europan Affairs, the bold face lie of it all, they did take sides. The situation was pure chaos, which only worsened with the revelation of the rotten things of steel to the east that had hollowed out the Kievan-Rus. Yet this reality didn't matter to the people, all they saw was the Maréchal de Francia signing a treaty.
Lyon had been scarred heavily by the war, he had lost an eye, an arm, and a leg to the fighting. He had served with valor, but what did it matter, nothing, but his men knew, they knew he was no coward. When the Americans approached him about intervening in Francia, he did not hesitate, after all it was not the place for the Americans or God forbid the Alemani to handle the fate of his beloved homeland.
Soldiers of the Lorraine Legion
Chasseur
Veterans and most bold amongst the ranks of the Lorraine Legion, highly experienced in close quarters combat, they are equipped lightly and armed with shotguns and submachines that complement their role in combat. Many of these men have earned their experience across Afrika, with many more being from the colonies, eager to fight for the Republic that was before Vasseur's takeover.
Heavy Infantry
As the importance of swiftness in combat rose with the tactics of the Stormtroopers, on the opposite end the heavily armored infantry earned their role by holding positions and providing a sweeping wave of saturation fire across a zone of conflict. Even now as the conflicts across the world keep pushing for superior speed, the role of the heavy infantry is still essential for holding ground and providing support fire.
Sharpshooter
Selected for their marksmanship skills, they are a vital support role in the Lorraine Legion and generally across all military forces. Equally they are feared by the enemy, but conversely understand that they are priority targets in any situation. Many of the Sharpshooters among the Lorraine Legion had gained experience within Afrika against the Baroque forces in North Afrika and hunting Aberrations in the Western Regions of the large Afrikan Continent.
Frankish Infantry
The core fighting force for the Lorraine Legion, the standard infantry man has been a part of the professional armies across Europa for over a century. Although many of the men that once served under Lyon sided with the Solaire Legion, he has found willing and able soldiers among the Colonies he oversaw during his exile. Although many of them had never set foot in Europa, they had heard the stories from their families and or friends of the Frankish Homeland.
Specifications/ Height: 24ft/ Engine: SNECAN Turbo M21/ Frame System: Thorax 2nd Gen System
Computing System: Gangila 1st Gen System/ Weaponry: 88mm Anti-Armor Machine Gun, Bayonet Attachment.
A light tank designed during the Europan War and upgraded during the post war years for further firepower and mobility by the exiled Frankish Legion. The smaller size and streamlined engineering made it highly suitable for the under supplied and maligned men fighting and stationed across the colonies. It stands in contrast to the bigger and heavier platforms used by the Solaire Legion. The Lorraine has proven to be a highly reliable tank during the campaign against Vasseur and his Solaire forces in Northern Francia.
An Anti-Infantry Cord designed by the Frankish Republic during the last year of the Europan War, based on the remains of Rhinelan AICs. A handful of prototypes were finished, but it was unable to see active use due to the abrupt end to the conflict. The production of the AUX Lance would be halted following Vasseur's consolidation of power, with only 121 out of the 800 units slated for production. The AUX Lance would be sent out with the exiled legions to the colonies in Afrika, as Vasseur focused on the production of the EVR Vanguard B1 as the AUX company had fallen out of favor with the Solaire.
As the Civil War broke out, the Lance became a symbol of the Lorraine Legion, one that even when offered more modern Cords by the Americans, the Lorraine Legion refused the offer, instead asking for aid in manufacturing more Lances.
Having fought during the Europan War as a Chasseur, Roche served with distinction and great valor, accomplishing several daring missions against the Rhine across the most contested of battlefields, even besting the feared Panzermensch super soldiers of the Rhine. He had run away from his village to join the war effort as the first salvos had shaken the Frankish lines, the recruiters overlooked his young age and assigned him to the light infantry, the Chasseurs. By the end of the war in 1912 his reputation had spread across the Frankish command and the peoples, despite the sudden end to the war, he had brought honor to the Legion. As he got off a bus in Luthum he would be struck by an automobile, he would be rushed to emergency care. His condition was critical, yet there was hope, as he would be given the experimental “Preux” Treatment, based off the Rhinelander's Panzermensch Program, the Preux was made in the last days of the war to counter the Rhine, by creating Frankish super soldiers from stolen Rhine knowledge.
The conditions were not simple, as the information was not complete and the samples of Wodyn Ichor that the Franks had retrieved were limited, furthermore it was known that the treatment was more dangerous in fully grown individuals, as the Rhine only conducted it on children to give it a better chance of succeeding. Roche was barely 18, as a typical candidate would be 7-8. Despite all odds, Roche overcame the overwhelming margin for failure. By 1915 Roche had fully recovered, standing at 8ft tall, gaining over two feet in height and doubling his weight, his strength and speed match that of the Rhine Panzermensch, yet his body still needed time to master its new strength. As Vasseur's took control of the Republic, Roche departed alongside the disgraced Legion led by Lyon, his old commander, the man he had saved from bleeding out after getting hit by shrapnel from an artillery strike on the front, Roche dragged Lyon back to friendly lines, where due to a misunderstanding he almost had been executed for desertion, only to have Lyon vouch for him. He knew Lyon was no coward and he would never turn his back to him.
Roche by 1924 had fully mastered his physiology, Vasseur's Republic had shelved the Preux project, making Roche the First and only Paladin of the Franks. When observed by the Rhinelanders, they were surprised to see that Roche had taken so well to the treatment, despite all the adversities, although lacking in the Seele Particle treatment in crucial aspects, he had a rudimentary potential to use Cognition Bolts, not at the level of a proper Panzermensch, but again it was surprising to the Rhinelanders. The Americans themselves have provided Roche with additional gear, which is only in the experimental phase for their own super soldiers, the American Battleship. He is the hammer of the Lorraine Legion, dispatched strategically to help break across the most contested of battlegrounds across the frontline.
Led by the Sword Saint, the rightful champion of the Catharin Church, called upon the times of great strife and chaos, a legacy akin to that of the great champions that fought during the Vampire Wars and the Wars against the Ophidians throughout the centuries. Upon laying their eyes upon her, the Penitent Legion recognized the grace of the Holy Ghost, taking up their arms as they marched with their Sword Saint. Their numbers only increase as they cross Francia, the faithful taking up arms. Within this righteous war the lines begin to blur, as the Penitent Legion obliterates the Solaire, bring death to the heretics, and ruin to anything deemed tainted by the pagan devil Mithria. For the war cry of the Sword Saint is death, as she rides her pale steed across the battlefields, Holy Sword bathed in blood.
Soldiers of the Penitent Legion
Vesper
Organized by the Holy See across Europa are several sisterhoods dedicated to the worship of God and all that is Holy, these groups have always provided a sanctuary for the daughters of God that have been blessed with the Mysteries of the Holy Ghost. With the rise of nationalism and the push for centralization of power away from the Vatican, many rising powers have seen to turn these young women, that would have been Sisters, into War Witches. The Vespers are the traditional order within Francia, traditionally healers; the crises of the Frankish Revolution of the 18th Century necessitated them to be able to defend themselves. Now under an all too similar crisis, they have once again taken up arms.
Penitent Infantry
The fighting core of the penitent legion, unlike the modernized soldiers of the Solaire or Lorraine Legions, they are equipped with the large surplus of weaponry and equipment from the Europan War. Their training varies from individual unit to unit, with distinct qualities from across the Frankish Colonial holdings as well. They are drawn from all classes of men, even taking recruits from none Frankish peoples.
Penitent Wheelbreaker
Highly devoted soldiers of the Penitent Legion, arming themselves with massive and sturdy wheels that they use to bludgeon their enemies with. Although highly impractical, they are used in lethal form in close quarters combat. They do however have sidearms, providing them some form of range.
Penitent Knight
Elite members of the Penitent Legion, as a sign of their skill and distinction they are given longswords. Something that denotes them as knights, yet they do not exclusively seek close quarters combat, they are among the few that have been equipped with more modern rifles in comparison to the infantry.
Penitent Confessor
Confessors serve a role that is a mix between a chaplain and a commissar, enforcing discipline and order among the infantry of the Penitent Legion. They communicate the orders of the leadership during active combat, often leading the charge ahead of their fellow soldiers.
Once nothing more than a commoner, living out her days like her family had done for generations in the village of Chapelle north of the city of Cena. With the rise of the Solaire cult across Francia following the end of the Europan War, her village was among the first to be burned as an offering to Mithria in the summer solstice. She lost everything that day, her life was left as nothing more than ashes. She wandered for weeks southward, trying to get as far away from her grave of her old life. During this she would meet Florine, the Sword Saint of the Catharin Church, the pair would journey south to Italia, hoping to reach the Vatican. To deliver Fiona's account, and to allow her to start a new life safely away from the Solaire.
Yet during their journey they would be confronted by two of Vasseur's trusted companions, Kasia and Basile, a War Witch and a Werewolf from the lands of Polania. They had come to kill the Sword Saint and retrieve the Holy Sword, as ordered by Vasseur. Although Florine was able to best the pair and fend them off, she would ultimately succumb to her wounds sustained protecting Fiona. Entrusting her with the Holy Sword, the letter, and her armor. As she journeyed alone, the Holy Sword began to talk to her, she thought she was going mad, until she saw it, a crimson mouth twisted in a smile. It was alive, Sköll was an entity, an entity that wanted to taste the blood of all Mithraic followers, especially an emperor. It told her that he could feel her want for blood too, he would help her do this, but she would have to promise to stay quiet about him.
As the war broke out, the Vatican had instructed Fiona to take the mantle of the Sword Saint, the truth of Florine's death had to be kept a secret, as it would have been a devastating loss to the faithful. Fiona was able to easily step into her role, her resemblance was uncanny to the late Florine, with even traces of the divine blood of angels within her, there was no better candidate. The Holy See did its best to train Fiona during the short window between her arrival and the conflict. She no longer resembled the same person anymore.
The Holy Sword Sköll
Forged from the fragmentations of a forgotten deity, its power is only matched by its twin sword Hati. Sköll was inherited by the Church from its original owner, the Wolf Hound Knight Rosenwächter, the man that slayed Attila-Nos and waged war against the Vampires during the devastating war against them. He would hand the Holy Sword to the first of the Sword Saints, Angelica, who would go on to wield its power against the forces that would see humanity enslaved. It has remained within the arsenal of the Holy See for generations, passing between Sword Saints.
Born into the Catharin Church and the role of the Sword Saint, Florine's family had been known by the Church to have traces of the Angel Blood within them, as such it was no surprise when she was taken into the tutelage of the Catharin Church. She was trained to the best of the church's abilities, in the arts of war, diplomacy, and the teachings of the Holy Book of the Church. As the new century came, it became clear that another century of brutal warfare was on the horizon, the clouds far darker than before, thus the presence of a strong Sword Saint would be needed for the faithful.
Europa would be plunged into a devastating war, the young Florine would not be able to intervene or act in any way that matters, as the Holy See continued its neutral position, even as Italia went to war against the Ostro-Magyar and Rhinelans Empire. Many lives were lost, but thanks to the intervention of the Americans in 1912, many more were spared, yet the news of the terror from the east dampened the cease fire. With the cease fire came the formation of the NADC, an organization that the Catharin Church was eager to work with. As such Florine's first missions were in service of the Church and the NADC, her work would lead her to southern Francia, as the disturbing rumors of the rise of a bloodthirsty pagan cult began to leak out of the Frankish Republic.
Formed in 1870 following the collapse of the Second Frankish Empire at the hands of the Rhinelan Reich. The Republican Guard was established by the Frankish Republic to serve as both a policing force within Francia and a defensive force to aid the Frankish Legions in holding the homeland. The Republican guard would help bring order and stability outside of the metropolitan areas of Francia, even seeing active combat during the Europan War holding the line against the Rhine's offensives into Francia. Following the Europan War, many veterans of it sought work within the Guard. Many young men saw it as a preferable alternative to the Legion at the time, as it had not suffered the disgrace that the Legion had. As Vasseur took power, many within the Guard sided with the new Republic, by 1924 the Guard would be heavily intertwined with the Solaire Legion.
Republican Guard
Having once served as a policing force across Francia, as Vasseur took over the government it was in part due to the sympathetic elements within the Guard which made his rise to power smoother. They would turn a blind eye and even aid his plans across Francia, silencing anyone that would pose any threat to the Solaire.
Republican Guard Breacher
Assault specialist within the Guard, the Breachers would be tasked with cracking down on the suspected terrorists and rebels within Francia, this was largely a cover story as they would be sent in to eliminate political and influential figures that opposed the Solaire or harbored anti-Solaire sentiments.
Led by Vasseur, deeply entrenched in the ideology of Mithria, it is composed of veterans from the Europan War and the generation that grew up during that bleak time. They are fanatical and believe that Vasseur will lead them and Francia into a new golden age, one in which the world powers would not dare object to the rightful heirs to the legacy of the great Mithraic Empire of Antiquity. Within the legion the Republican Guards are also a functional part of them, serving as a forwards guard unit across the various points of conflict across Francia, reinforced by the Solaire Legion where needed.
Soldiers of the Solaire Legion
Solaire Guard
The reorganized professional core of the Frankish forces under the Solaire Legion, what they may lack in combat experience when compared to the men fighting for the Lorraine or Penitent Legion, they make up in absolute deviation to the defense of Vasseur and the future of their homeland.
Empyrean Legionary
An elite division within the Solaire Legion formed of mostly of the veterans from the Europan War, they are equipped with golden featureless masks and the equally as regal equipment. They are dispatched to assist in the most contested of combat areas across the two frontlines.
Empyrean Centurion
Heavily armored and equipped, the Centurions serve as squad commanders for the Empyrean Legionaries. As the frontline falls to Luthum, the Centurions have been spotted more, seemingly they had been kept largely in reserve for the battle for Luthum.
Solaire Maximalist
The trusted lieutenants of Vasseur, they have been given a small sample of the true power of Mithria, which has altered them into locus of power and control across the frontline. They are absolutely loyal to his plans and visions, knowing that the promised victory of Vasseur will bring about a new golden age for the Mithraic Empire and the once forgotten Mithria.
Musketeer
The Frankish Military Academy was reorganized shortly after Vasseur took control of the Republic, taking special interest in the development of Cognition specialists. He would introduce them to ancient books and archaic practices that predated the knowledge of the Holy See, for it was from the traditions of the Oracles of the Mithraic Empire.
Tournesols
The seed is forced into the bodies of the weak, the cowardly, the prisoner, the traitor, and all those who would refuse the Path of Totality. They are given a small effigy of the Solaire Mithria to hold, a small mercy for the wretched enemies of the Sun, one that they grip tighter as the flower begins to bloom and their body bubbles with light. The Tournesols are sent out as moving explosive agents that can be highly devastating.
Fanatic Brigand
Recruited from all rungs of the loyal Frankish people, these fanatics have given everything to Vasseur, many of whom have suffered horrible wounds. Yet more perplexing they all have shown their devotion to the Sun by burning their faces and wounds to gain the favor of their living god, they are relentless and have no fear of death.
Zealot Liquidator
The assistants of the Hierophants, the Liquidators are equipped with flamethrowers and are tasked with burning the bodies of the willing and unwilling. They are considered a priority target, especially within the close quarter fighting faced within the cities and larger towns of Francia.
Sunkissed Prisoner
As the battles rage on, the unfortunate reality of those captured by Solaire forces is bleak. First assumed to be a policy of no prisoners taken, it would be found out that those taken alive by the Solaire are subjected to cruel and monstrous torture. A burning core of metal is dropped within the mouth of a prisoner, melting the head but not killing the prisoner, leaving them as a strange form of automaton.
Hierophant
Perhaps once devoted men of the Sun god, the strange powers of Mithria have twisted them into wild and shapeless creatures who move like the dancing fires they worship. They are the will of Mithria through the physical conduit of mankind, they do not speak, as they let the fire and their dance mesmerize the willing and open minded.
An enigmatic man, his past is vague and any records of him prior to the Europan War are scarce. During the war he quickly rose up the ranks, his bravery and leadership earning him the loyalty and admiration of his men. Some amongst the men would even claim that Vasseur had the visage of the Emperor of the Franks Carlo Beaucaire, perhaps he was a descendant, an omen of Francia's glory from only a century ago. He would be the first amongst the men to be sent into no man's land, he would always lead his men across it, they would describe him as having a burning halo, an aura of pure light about him. As the final year of the war came he would be given command of his own legion, leading a strong counter attack against the Rhinelanders renewed offensive efforts. Yet his efforts would be halted as the Americans forced a stop to the war. He would be disgusted by the Frankish Government's weakness and their disregard for the men that had fought and bled for Francia. Through L'Union Solaire he made efforts to change that, he understood the burning feeling within and the potential fire that could come of it.
As the Civil War broke, Vasseur left command of his forces to his trusted generals as he and his Hirophants prepared the city of Luthum for the ceremony of Solstice, the path to totality had finally been forced. His agents began to gather all the people from the surrounding towns and villages into Luthum, a final mass sacrifice to his god Mithria, he would achieve his goal of Apotheosis, his century long journey would finally come to an end, the Empire of Mithria would once more be brought upon the world.
Born to a family of Polanian refugees that fled to Francia during the partitioning of their homeland by the Kievan-Rus Empire and Rhinelan Reich during the later half of the 19th century. Raised in the Polanian ghetto of Luthum, although she never lived under a free Polania, she was brought up in a community that was deeply entrenched in the customs and living memories of their homes. At a young age she would be discovered to have the capacity to use Cognition Magic, she would be trained by the Frankish Military Academy to use her powers. At the cusp of the Europan War, before marching out to support the Frankish Forces as a War Witch, she vowed to her sickly father that she would always fight for Polania, as he did and his father before him.
She would meet Basile during the war, both serving the Frankish forces as part of their Terror Units, specialized forces organized around the small core of War Witches and other Cognition Specialists within the Frankish Republic. Their goal was to inflict more psychological damage, through shock and awe tactics that could destabilize their enemies. She served alongside Basile across the frontline against the Rhinelanders, when the news came that the War had come to a sudden end, she felt a deep feeling of shame. Not for the failure of the Frankish Republic, but because due to this she was no closer to seeing any progress towards a free Polania.
As of 1924, she has been working alongside Vasseur and his sycophantic followers, being dispatched on vital missions to secure Vasseur's triumph. He promised to free Polania once he achieved his goals, under his new world order. Although initially assuming that the Sword Saint had fallen during their confrontation four years ago, she was surprised by this development, she would offer to handle the situation, only to be ordered to other matters.
Having been a child during the partitioning of Polania by the Rhine and Kievan-Rus, he saw the sacking of Varsovia and the brutal suppression of his people's by the barbaric occupation forces of the Alemani and Ruthuians. He would join the Polanian resistance cells during his teenage years, being given the “Blood of Saint Christopher” a sacred rite within the Catharin Church, by sympathetic elements within it, his will proved strong enough that he was able to manifest into the form of a Werewolf. He would use his power to run a guerrilla campaign against both the Rhine and the Kievan-Rus for decades, until one of his own men sold out their operations to the Rhine which led to the slaughter and severe retaliatory attacks by them against the Polanians. He would manage to escape and flee across the Rhine towards the borders to Francia with the aid of Britannian spies, who would get him in contact with the Frankish Government.
He would happily fight for the Franks during the Europan War within the Terror Battalions, there he would meet a young Polanian War Witch named Kasia, although she personally had never seen Polania, her conviction relit a hunger in him to fight for his homeland. As of 1924, Basiel is an old man, the Blood of Saint Christopher still giving him vitality even in his 60's,yet such Blood can only do so much for him and the stacked wounds that the Sword Saint inflicted on him have not healed, he has grown weary. Seeing the actions of Vasseur and his regime as pointless, yet he hopes that Kasia is right and that they are still fighting for a free Polania.
The heralds of the Sun Deity Mithria, they are aberrant creatures from the immaterial existence that exists in the same registry as the collective human consciousness. They are the ones tasked with aiding the chosen champion of Mithria, by giving him power and knowledge to alter the flesh and bones of his followers into soldiers capable of fighting the enemies of their master. The most important gift they can render on to the champion is the Mithraic Crown, which anoints them as an Emperor of the Sun and the living fire of the Sun.
There are a total of thirteen Vulkyrie, each one possessing a different name and weapon granted to them by their master. The process of summoning them involves the mass sacrifice of humans via the rituals and practices of the Mithraic Traditions. They are able to change the size in which they manifest, although they seem to prefer being significantly larger than any natural creature. Their skin is a bright red, they are clad in golden armor, they have long serpentine necks and tails, and a pair of white wings.
A large creature that roams the streets of Luthum, it has the body of a golden bull and the face of Vasseur. It is a manifestation of the ambition of the mad man that once ruled Europa, he desired not to conquer the world, but to fight and burn everything in a similar form to the sun engulfing anything that falls into it. It is total madness, a frenzied fire that can only consume. The savage incarnation of the would be god's Id.
