I was enrolled for Fall 2023 in LIS 5400, Children’s and Young Adult Literature . From its catalog course description, this class offers “An examination and evaluation of children’s and young adult literature with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion.” Projects undertaken this semester included a book talk, and a video trailer for a book that had been challenged in libraries. One of the things I enjoyed most in this class was the encouragement it offered to read books in a variety of formats and genres. I appreciated its insights to critically read children’s and young adult literature, as well as keep up with societal trends that may affect the library’s collection and its ability to serve young patrons.
