Genesis Social Welfare Foundation @ Taoyuan
The Taoyuan branch of the Genesis Social Welfare Foundation is only a 12-minute drive from our school and is an important social welfare organization in the Taoyuan district. Because the foundation is located in a building without a sign, it took us a long time to find it the first time we visited.
We visited the Taoyuan Branch of the Genesis Social Welfare Foundation on November 4, 2025. Ms. Li Yu-Zi (李郁諮) guided us throughout the entire visit. To better understand the foundation’s services and needs, we attended her presentation in person. After the presentation, she also gave us a tour of the office, the care center, and the warehouse.
Afterwards, Ms. Li took us to the third floor, where patients in a vegetative state were cared for.
The third floor is a care ward for patients in a persistent vegetative state, and there are 45 patients living there. Besides the patient rooms, there is also a family visiting area, a kitchen for preparing meals, a special bathing room, and a space where staff help patients do simple exercises and rehabilitation.
Each vegetative patient’s room is named after a flower. The rooms are fairly spacious, and each room accommodates two patients. For the privacy of the patients, we were not allowed to enter the rooms or take photos inside.
Each vegetative patient needs an average of 10–12 diapers every day. Therefore, the 45 patients cared for by the Taoyuan branch require nearly 16,200 diapers per month.
