We hire international staff who have a J-1 visa. Staff must work with a sponsoring agency. Currently we have an agreement signed with Camp America, the bulk of our international staff come through Camp America. We have worked with Camp Leaders in the past and are working to get a partnership with them going for the 2022 summer.
There are two types of J1 visas: camp counselor and camp power/support. Applicants with a camp power/support J-1 visa can only work in support positions, such as kitchen assistant, facilities assistant, and media/office specialist. Applicants with a J-1 camp counselor visa work with directly with campers in positions such as unit (general) counselor, unit leader, aquatic specialist, adventure specialist, and program specialists.
Historically we have had about a third of our staff be international, but it may be less this year depending on COVID 19 related visa restrictions. Salaries for international staff are different than the one listed under "jobs at camp" due to the camp having to pay a fee to agencies.
