Benchmark institutions

What is a benchmark institution?

Benchmark institution is an institution selected by the Research Evaluation Board (the selection should be based mainly on the proposals of individual units) with the aim to compare the quality of research conducted at Charles University within individual fields, research areas and units with the one reached out by the leading national and international higher education institutions or other research organizations.

How does the evaluation work with benchmark institutions?

  • As a compulsory chapter of its self-evaluation report every unit that is subject to the evaluation should critically assess the national and international standing of its research within individual research areas in comparison to the selected benchmark institutions.

  • A comparison of the quality of the academic field at the University with the one achieved by the benchmark institutions is an integral part of the bibliometric analysis.

  • The quality of a unit is assessed by the Research Evaluation Board in comparison to the quality of selected benchmark institutions.
