This model is about investigating the mechanism of inheritance of fur-coat color in mice.
Imagine that you own a pair of mice! You can SETUP colors of the male and the female that you have. These are the parents. You can decide NUMBER-OF-OffSPRING they will produce and MAKE-F1-GENERATION.
Play around with the model. Change the colors of the parents. Change the number of offspring. Try to identify any patterns regarding the inheritance of fur-coat colors that are consistent. For example, do both dark-colored parents always produce dark-colored offspring?
Based on your observations and experiments, can you infer any rules/laws regarding the inheritance of fur-coat color in these mice?
Gregor Mendel, a monk, performed several experiments to identify rules regarding the heredity of certain observable traits. If you want, you can read more about Mendelian Inheritance. If you have not read about Mendel’s laws of inheritance, ignore the following part. But if you have, then try to identify the dominant and recessive traits in these mice. Write an explanation about how you identified those. Provide evidence in support of your claims.
