Playing around with this model is a great way to learn different ideas about coordinate geometry.
This model allows you to change a couple of ‘parameters’ such as 'value-of-x' and 'value-of-y'. Change the values of these parameters and draw lines in the space provided to you.
Set your imagination free and try to create beautiful designs of your own. Try and observe different patterns and rules while creating your designs.
For example: What happens to the red line if the ‘value-of-y' is increased?
Make appropriate choices of values of x and y to draw multiple intersection points on one of the four colors presented to you. Try this for all the colors and note your observations. Can you find a pattern regarding values of x and y and which color the point-of-intersection is in?
Note:
An interesting fact: On a Cartesian plane each line has an equation. You can draw a horizontal or a vertical line in this model and find its equation.
To view the equation of the vertical (green) line or the horizontal (red) line, execute the following steps:
Open the “Command Center”
In the text-box next to observer tab, type:
For Green Line: show-equation "green line"
For Red Line: show-equation "red line"
Press Enter
Can you find out the method of determining equations of vertical and horizontal lines in a Cartesian plane?
