Students learned about WHOI Marine Biologist, Dr. Jesús Pineda's research on barnacle larval transportation as well as the research of one of his Graduate students and a postdoctoral fellow. Dr. Pineda and his team brought a variety of different barnacles, some that are small and a few that were incredibly large.
Research in the Pineda lab "addresses the factors that determine the distribution and abundance of benthic organisms. We conduct our research in temperate and tropical environments." - Pineda Lab
OFI Postdoctoral Fellow
MIT-WHOI
Joint Prog. Grad student
The Pineda Lab research interests include the following
Larval transport and larval dispersal
Settlement, recruitment and population ecology
Nearshore and coastal ecology: biological-physical interactions
Due to the larger size of our class, Dr. Pineda arranged to have us meet at the The David Center which houses AVAST.
"AVAST supports WHOI's vision for innovation in ocean technology, science, and education by providing the resources to create and pursue cutting-edge projects and programs." - WHOI
