"An animal lacking a backbone, such as an arthropod, mollusk, annelid, coelenterate, etc. The invertebrates constitute an artificial division of the animal kingdom, comprising 95 percent of animal species and about 30 different phyla." - OED
Students had the opportunity to look at some of the invertebrates that have adhered to the dock in Eel Pond. The most common were tunicates, also more commonly known as "sea squirts". These tunicates were mini ecosystems with seaweed and other invertebrates attached to them.
