This page contains terms related to data and databases and a description of how they could relate to everyday life.
Data is seen as the starting point to understanding, while wisdom is the ending. Like most educational systems, jobs, and entertainment, it has a clear hierarchical order. Each part of this pyramid has importance and must be present or complete to move on to the next. This pyramid can be related to the stages of development of a human being. Data being infancy, information being school age, knowledge being adulthood, and wisdom being late adulthood. Comparing these two ideas for me, helped me better understand the function of databases. Without the presence of data, a database would lack structure and therefore be unable to process information. Without the process of information, knowledge, or the ability to perform analytics, cannot be completed. Lastly, without knowledge, there can be no wisdom or logical decision made to complete the query.Â
Lessons Learned
Reviewing this lesson's content while making meaningful connections allowed me to understand the meaning behind the order of data, information, knowledge, and wisdom. Understanding that concept allowed my understanding of databases to strengthen. With this newly gained knowledge, I am now able to navigate databases more efficiently, which allows me to utilize every tool that each may offer.
