Brainstorming Local Phenomenon
Directions
Brainstorm and record possible phenomena and/or problems for the grade level.
Determine which are locally relevant and important to your students.
Add a more detailed explanation of the chosen Anchoring Phenomenon or Problem.
Bundling the Standards Around a Phenomenon
Directions
Determine which phenomenon and standards will be needed in each unit in order for students to understand the phenomenon.
Give the unit a title.
Repeat until all standards are linked with a phenomenon to be used during the school year.
Completing the Year Overview Form
Directions
Determine the number of days in each unit. (In elementary, a unit may take 2 weeks to
teach - 3 weeks if there is an engineering standard in the unit.)
Determine the order the units are to be taught throughout the year.
Determine the beginning and ending date of each unit. (Remember to plan around
interruptions and assessments.)
Determine the number of units needed for your school year.
Enter all the above information on the "Year Scope and Sequence" template.
