AR K-12

Science Standards

(PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS)

AR Science Standards are actually student performance expectations.  They are the end result of the teaching and learning (What the students should be able to do and understand).

The standards are very similar to the Next Generation Science Standards.  This was purposely done in order for NGSS resources to be easily accessed and used by teachers.

Use evidence statements to break down the performance expectation into learning objects.  These may help in better learning the standards.  Also, these can be used to write objectives.

Snapshot documents were created by an Arkansas Science Specialist.

The intent of the document is to show a year overview of all the standards and clarification statements in specific grade levels.

This can assist teachers with planning.

**NOTE: the AR K-12 Science Standards documents include required information so the Snapshots document does not replace them.

Both the Arkansas K-12 Science Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards are based on A Framework for K-12 Science Education (NRC 2012) and are meant to reflect a new vision for science education.
