Warmachine

Warmachine is the original Steam-Punk miniatures game, and helped define the genre.

What is "Steam Punk?" Put simply, it is a fantasy sub-genre setting where the world is undergoing its industrial revolution.

The world of Warmachine is in many ways typical of fantasy settings - there are knights and wizards (good and evil), there are elves, dwarves, goblins, trolls, and dragons. However, these races are learning to combine their traditional blend of swords and sorcery with modern innovations, such as steam power and gunpowder. The result? Utter, ridiculous, brilliant chaos.

Warmachine is set in the Iron Kingdoms - a group of lands in the west which have used their new technology and industry to develop towering "Warjacks" - gigantic, destructive steam-powered robots, controlled by a magical brain. Warjacks are led into battle by a "Warcaster," a powerful magic user and military leader from their respective kingdoms.

Hordes, a fully-compatible companion game, is set in the wild lands to the east, where technology is scarce. The powers of the east gather armies of terrifying "Warbeasts," marshaled to battle by daring "Warlocks." The aesthetic of Hordes armies is primal (rather than industrial), and a Warlock controls its army slightly differently than a Warcaster, but both the Warmachine and Hordes armies share a common rulebook and can be played against each other seamlessly.

Warmachine / Hordes figurines are 32mm, so a man-sized model is a little more than an inch tall (with Warjacks and Warbeast being much larger). Armies usually comprise 4 to 30 models. Full games usually take 1-2 hours.

The game has a very "tactical" flavor, with very deliberate combinations of moves being necessary to achieve victory. With one of the tightest rules sets ever devised for miniatures wargames, Warmachine was an instant classic, and has become a true staple of the wargaming community.

"Warmachine" and "Hordes" are the intellectual property of Privateer Press (US). We are proud to support their products in our store.
