Every once in a while, I have a sense that a person I admire is approaching a major award, and I get slightly obmoxious about offering to help. This was one of those times. Conveniently, I was able to conspire with the recipient.
Talia already had a black cloak she wanted to use as the base garment, as well as some gorgeous white silk twill to line it with. I also added an interlining, knowing she is often cold. In retrospect, that may have been a bit too much warmth, so I've offered to remove that interlining, just in case.
The cloak had a small tear which had been repaired , but I was concerned that the front edge of one side was shortened by the repair, so I unpicked those stitches, added a felted cashmere patch, and needle felted over the repair so that it would be less visible. I then played with layout, knowing that Talia wanted blues and greens near her face. From then one, it was all about the stitching. As usual, the leaves are reclaimed wools that I have fulled and then die cut.
