Laurel palla for Celera's elevation to the Order of the Laurel. I used a lighter green tropical weight wool for the body of the palla, a deeper green for the appliqued leaves, and Epic Wools to embroider the stems, veins, and fruits. The applique, embroidery, and hems are all hand sewn.
Process: Sourcing light enough wool was the most challenging part of the process. Glass blowers get overly warm most days they work, and Celera emphasized needing tropical weight wool in order to reach the correct drape and not wind up with anything overly warm. Once I found the right fabric for the ground and leaves, it was just a question of picking colors for embroidery and making and affixing the leaves. I opted for lined, turned applique. I also chose to die-cut the leaves them to spare my hands, and the machine has become one of my favorite gadgets.
