Staff Selection Process

STEP 1: Is Camp Potomac Woods right for you?

Check out more of the pages of our website, especially Is Camp Right For Me?. Learn more about what makes Potomac Woods special, including our traditions and activities, and make sure our philosophy fits your own and feels like the right place for you. When you choose a camp, it should be a place that will allow you to thrive so you can help campers do the same. Please note that we are also hiring camp staff at our other two locations in Mt. Solon, VA (more rustic/high adventure focused) and Hughesville, MD (very similar to Potomac Woods). Most importantly, to be successful at Camp Potomac Woods, you need to want to work with kids and love being outdoors! If that doesn’t sound like fun, this is probably not the job for you.

STEP 2: Apply on Paycom, Indeed, or Handshake

Applying to camp is super easy! All we need from you is a current resume, no cover letter or additional information is required. Start your application on Paycom or any other job site where you saw our posting.

STEP 3: Interviews

If our director feels that your experience is a match for Camp Potomac Woods' needs, she will contact you to set up an interview via Microsoft Teams or Google Meet. During the interview, you will get answers to any questions you have and we can get to know you. For leadership staff (those applying for a director-level or manager-level position), you will have a second interview with Girl Scouts Nation's Capital's camping services manager.

STEP 4: Job Offer

After the interview, you may be offered a job at Potomac Woods. You will receive a written offer in your email with your contract start and end dates, salary or hourly rate, and next steps to take to start the onboarding process. The onboarding process includes a criminal background check, reference checks, completion of a Paycom application, signing an official offer letter through Paycom, and eventually a health form to be sent to our health staff and review of our personnel policies. You'll also be invited to join our staff Discord, so you can start getting to know your fellow staff members before camp starts, ask questions of returning staff members, and start to become a part of our camp community.
