Dr. Thomas "Thom" Williams is a Precision Livestock Research Fellow within the Institute for Future Farming Systems at Central Queensland University.
Originally trained in parasitology and feedlot health, he later developed a broader interest in precision livestock management and the use of data-driven approaches to address livestock production challenges. Over the past five years, his research has focussed on the use of on-animal sensors and remote weighing systems to better understand livestock production, behavior, movement, social interactions, and responses to environmental conditions.
Thom is particularly interested in developing the methods, tools, and baseline understanding needed for robust precision livestock analysis, including work on variability in sensor data and approaches to classifying movement and social behavior. He also aims to make precision livestock management more accessible across disciplines by creating practical resources that simplify analysis and help others avoid common errors.
Thom holds a PhD in ruminant parasitology and a Bachelor of Animal Science (Hons) from Charles Sturt University.
