A theoretical and contextual overview of the communication discipline, including concepts and models of communication; verbal and nonverbal messages; communication ethics; perception; and listening in public, interpersonal, group/team, and mass communication contexts. Incorporates research, preparation, critique, adaptation, and delivery of informative and persuasive messages in public presentations.

Buscom 201 - Global Business Communication

Develop effective intercultural communication skills for business in the global economy. Expressive (writing and speaking) as well as receptive (reading and listening) skills will be included. Emphasis will be placed on developing credible, persuasive business cases that help guide informed business decisions.

Dispute 390 - Conflict Management

Examination of the causes of conflict, conflict management theory, and conflict management techniques applied in interpersonal, intergroup, organizational, and community settings. Discussion and skill development through experiential learning will focus on such conflict management techniques as interpersonal management, mediation, arbitration, negotiation, and reconciliation. May be taken for credit in COMM, DISPUT, or SOC but not for more than one department. PREREQ: Upper-division standing.

The successful manager in professional settings is involved in a variety of negotiation activities. The tactics, strategies, and operations of effective and ineffective bargaining/negotiation behaviors will be presented. The course develops negotiator skills and knowledge leading to collaborative based action and solutions.
