To learn how biomass and energy are transferred in an ecosystem
To learn how to represent changes in biomass or energy
I can explain how mass and energy transfer in an ecosystem
I can draw how energy and mass are transfered in an ecosystem
Producer (autotroph) - An organism that make their own food
Normally plants
Consumer (heterotroph) - An organism that eats food
Primary - Herbavores, they eat producers
Secondary - Carnivores or omnivores, they eat primary consumers
Tertiary and beyond - Carnivores, they eat primary and secondary consumers
Normally Animals
Decomposer - An organism that breaks down dead organisms
Normally fungi
Biomass refers the weight or mass from living tissue
This can be any living tissue
Plant
Animal
Fungal
Bacterial
Mass gets transfered though the ecosystem.
Producers will take abiotic factors and make food.
Consumers will eat the producers
Any dead remains gets eaten by the decomposers
In an ecosystem energy is stored inside food.
All energy in an ecosystem comes from an inorganic source
Normally the sun
The transfer of energy is never 100% effective.
Some energy from an organism is lost due to heat through the metabolism of the organisms.
Producers will take in the suns light and convert 10% into stored energy. Consumers will digest 10% of the producers energy and use it in their bodies
