Cub Scouting is a family activity. It is a much bigger commitment and more involved program than sports or after school clubs. It is not just meetings to attend, but also activities to do at home and with your Den to complete the Required Adventures as outlined in the Scout Handbook. Further, we do not have any paid leaders or coaches. So Scouting is only successful when the parents get involved, both at home and in the Pack. As such, we must all work together to make the activities happen. Everyone must participate at some level at some time in the year. This is not meant to exclude anyone. On the contrary, it ensures that everyone has the opportunity to realize the benefits of Scouting without a select few shouldering an unfair burden of work.
That said, you can of course delegate your responsibility to anyone... Dad, Grandpa, Uncle Fester, or your retired neighbor who's always tinkering in the garage. Additionally, cubscoutideas.com publishes all of the Required Adventures, many with expanded fun ideas for completing them. Above all, keep it simple and fun!
At a minimum every parent who does not elect a Primary Volunteer Post is responsible to plan, organize, and lead one Required Adventure in their Den.
