This used to be a thing... not anymore.
OK. You've read most of this guide, maybe you have some 502s and 480s or 493s, or perhaps even 509s. Chances are fairly high that the 70 you're playing right now has some 518-535 gear, too, if it was around in Dragonflight S4. But... no doubt you've inspected high-HP folks with iLvL 545s, or perhaps you've come against one of the precious few characters with 567s š In any case, I'm sure you have questions.
Aside: The yellow text is no longer relevent, due to rescaling of 545 iLvL gear to 408/addition of a level requirement during the last maintenance. It is kept here for reference while we transition away from bugged BoEs.
So when TWW launched, there was discovered a bug with the brand new Bismuth Lockboxes- they contained iLvL 545 BoE gear with a 70 requirement, and it was around for about one or two weeks. They were farmed en masse by some players, naturally. The bug allowing these items to drop at 70/545 was fixed, and for a while existing 545s were fixed too, but.... for some unknown reason, remaining 545s are no longer fixing upon logout. These elusive 545s have been either kept safeĀ from prior fixes by the auction house.
Obviously if you wish to attempt to track down and purchase these (incredibly pricey) 545 gears, then more power to you. Expect to pay exorbitant amounts. Weapons are the most important, of course.Ā
In addition, there was an even shorter-lived and lesser-known bug with delves, in which a level 70 character could acquire BoP iLvL 567 greens. The character would then be transferred from TWW to a DF account. These ones are at least a lot more rare than the old 545s, but unlike the 545s, they have not been nerfed (yet).
By no means! If you've been around any PvP bracket, you know that there's good games and bad games. 70s are no different. The easiest way to improve game quality is going to be more players queueing- but only queue if its what you want to do, of course.
A toon with a majority of 502 pieces will still have somewhere between 1 and 1.2m HP, 14-16k primary stat, and around 40-50% in two priority secondary stats (or a healthy mix between 20-35% in all four!). If you know how to play your class, you will be able to do some useful work. ABUSE CC. Team up and treat those GF'd 70s like minibosses!
Also keep in mind the Algari Competitor trinkets from the home page- here you can see the difference between the PvE and PvP iLvLs for one of them. These easily accessible trinkets provide an excellent boost to your character, and help to narrow the playing field vs GF'd gear users.
Dare I say: PvP with current vs GF'd gear in the 70s bracket is in a better state than 20s vs 29s. Of course, class plays a big role, as does faction balance.Ā
But... yeah, you should probably wait until you have the best gear you can reasonably get before you PvP.
