This timey-wimey dungeon is in the southeast corner of Thaldraszus, to the left of the hourglass depicted on the ingame map. Even if you do nothing else, you'll want to familiarize yourself with this place- it's the only way we can acquire Spark of Awakening, required to craft season-4 level armor and weapons.
In addition, mythic DOTI has a hard mode which offers the most challenging 5-man content available at 70! Yeah, you can grab 80s to help carry if you wish. Of course, you're not confined merely to this hourglass in the isles.
Quick synopsis of gear item levels available from various sources:
Khaz Algar BoEs from AH: 515. Farming them requires a level 75 looter in TWW expansion. I do not recommended doing this if you like money. Just use your gold.
DOTI hard mode [coordinated + geared group, can recruit 80s]: 509. Also available: 519 from the final boss (only) in a deathless run!
DOTI (any difficulty, including heroic!): 502 crafted via combining 2x Splintered Spark of Awakening. One splintered spark possible per boss.
*MAXIMUM 15 TOTAL SPARKS (30 SPLINTERED) PER CHARACTER*
Mythic Dragonflight dungeon: 493 (including DOTI regular mythic, non-hard mode)
Dragonflight World Event: 480 (weekly)
Heroic Dragonflight dungeon: 476 (including heroic DOTI)
Normal Dragonflight dungeon: 460 (not available in DOTI)
Timewalking dungeon: 415
Other normal dungeon: 371 (accessible via party sync w/ Chromie time*)
These iLvLs will be listed in () throughout this page.
DOTI is unique from other Dragonflight dungeons; it's a "megadungeon", with a total of 8 bosses. Heroic (476) queues are split into two equal 4-boss segments:
Fall of Galakrond
Rise of Murozond
There is NO normal difficulty. When walking in with a premade group, the 2nd half automatically loads upon completion of the first.
Hard mode (509) is only available within mythic, and is enabled by selecting the correct dialogue option when talking to Nozdormu at the beginning of the instance. Bosses will reset to standard mythic (493) difficulty if you completely vacate the instance.
Standard mythic (493) and hard mode (509) share a weekly lockout, while heroic (476) is daily.
SignsOfKelani on YouTube created this handy video covering each boss in the dungeon. Here it is for your reference. Required knowledge for mythic (493) and hard mode (509). Thanks Kelani!
Obviously, DOTI isn't the only game in town. Timewalking (415) dungeons and normal (460) or heroic (476) Dragonflight dungeons provide a source of gear to fill out empty slots when you're on lockout and/or totally sick of our favorite bronze dragon hangout. But surely you'd never tire of that; there's no time! (booooo)
The most relavent of these, however: Mythic (493) Dragonflight dungeons. These Dungeons are:
Ruby Life Pools
The Nokhud Offensive
Brackenhide Hollow
Neltharus
Algeth'ar Academy
Halls of Infusion
The Azure Vault
Uldaman: The Legacy of Tyr
They are one of the easiest ways to get epic season 4 gear, outside of crafted (502) gear and world (480) gear [listed below]. DOTI mythic (non-hard mode) also counts, but the others are just easier! But anyway, why not just farm DOTI heroic and put 502s in every slot? One word: Tier. Let's explore that world (480) option...
*An aside- yes, you can actually enter a scaled normal-difficulty (371) dungeon from any expansion! This is accomplished simply by enabling party-sync with another toon in your party. This other toon must be in Chromie Time, so generally below level 70. Check out the 70 speed DH guide for an azerite example (azerite requires the pary sync toon to also have HoA).
Much of our gear comes from dungeons, but thankfully Blizzard has also provided a massive gamut of world sources, each dropping (on a rotation!) a random iLvL 480 epic item contained in a cache. Each event can be completed for loot up to once per week. There's a lot of content which I will not cover in detail here, but I'll include WoWhead links for each one. These events drop caches on a three-week rotation:
Week 1
Community Soup (quest needed. hourly event in Azure Span, look at your map)
Siege on Dragonbane Keep (WQ Waking Shores, every 2hrs, look at your map)
Grand Hunts (WQs that rotate around the four main zones, look at your map)
Week 2
Time Rifts (quest needed, located in eastern Thaldraszus)
Researchers Under Fire (world quest in central Zaralek Caverns, look at your map)
Suffusion Camps (WQ in either Azure Span or Ohn'ahran Plains. Check your map)
Week 3
Shaping the Dreamsurge (quest needed, rotating event. Check your map)
Blooming Dreamseeds (quest needed, Emerald Dream)
The Superbloom (quest needed, Emerald Dream)
And then the rotation starts over.
In addition, the weekly emissary quests (Loam Niffen in Zaralek Caverns and The Dream Wardens in the Emerald Dream) can drop this iLvL 480 gear as well. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be consistent, and will sometimes give blue 463 or 467 gear.
None of this is by any means required, but you'll need a handful of epic pieces from somewhere for the next step!
*Read >this< if you don't have access to WQs*
**Suffusion camp may require you to first complete the DF intro quests up to the zeppelin/boat ride. You may need to wait until the next reset.**
Yeah, icons are my thing
At the bottom of the big stairs in Valdrakken, Shandris gives the quest to unlock the Emerald Dream. Visit this WoWhead guide for more detail.
So why epic (non-crafted, 480-493 or 509) gear specifically? You can transform it into tier pieces. Most likely you're familiar with tier sets, but if not: a tier is a class-specific armor set that, when combined in a set of (2) or (4), provides special bonuses for your current spec.
You should aim to assemble your 4-piece tier set with the highest iLvL you can get as soon as you can. Of course, DOTI hard mode (509) armor can also be transformed into tier, once you get to that point.
Armor is transformed into tier by visiting the Revival Catalyst, at the location circled in yellow on the map to your left.
*Please note that only head, chest, legs, hands, and shoulder slots will function together for the tier bonus. Other slots can be turned into tier, however they do NOT provide the bonus and are purely cosmetic. Great for transmog collectors!*
Have your tier set? Good. Some Sparks? Let's make something with them to fill in the gaps!
