Thank you Coochie Foodies for bringing organic and locally sourced products to the island. I like supporting boutique food producers who enrich our lives with diversity and health benefit to our diet. There are so many yummy options: it can be hard to choose!

The Coochie Foodies group not only provides me with the opportunity to easily obtain a broad range of healthy and environmentally responsible food and grocery products; it also provides me with a community connection that I value.
The products available through Foodies are of a high quality and I find that they store well thus avoiding wastage. I appreciate the ability to access specialty items that I would otherwise have to travel a distance to access and of course love the fact that I do not have to carry heavy bags of groceries up and down the jetties. I have ordered regularly with Foodies for the past 4 years and look forward to continuing to do so .

John and I thought when we first moved to Coochiemudlo that we would give Coochie Foodies a go! 3 years later we are still using the group. The thought initially of having to pack food every 6 weeks was to be honest a bit of a pain... It is actually great to see all the products other people get and subsequently we often try. The packing is in fact not too bad...1.5 hours every 6 weeks isn't much to give back... Also, a good social time when packing...Meeting other islanders.
The food we get is always either organic or chemical free and is from local providers which we love... Choice wise there's a good one especially for fruit and veggies, bread and dairy... The downside for some people is not choosing them yourselves... However, Gabrielle and Russell will always help if you aren't happy with the product go back to the supplier to see what the problem is… This happens very infrequently I must say...We also use it for the heavy products ie potatoes, onions, sugar, flour, etc... I would recommend to anyone to give Coochie Foodies ago... You will be very pleased once you do.

After moving to the island, and getting to know people, I heard about a group called 'Coochie Foodies'. I found their website and started ordering and getting involved. Russell and Gabrielle made it really easy, with an easy-to-use online ordering system. The opportunity was available to volunteer. Packing with Coochie Foodies is well organized, and fun. I really enjoy the sense of community plus being involved with supporting our community in sourcing locally grown foods.

I was first attracted to Coochie Foodies because farmers are paid around 4 x what they get from supermarkets and because most of the produce is sourced locally, saving carbon emissions. I love the produce and the way buying seasonally forces us to be creative with our cooking. It's also fun collecting the food every fortnight and mingle with the other Foodies members.

I've been ordering from Coochie Foodies for about four years now and just love the super fresh (sometimes picked the day we receive it), local, organic produce. It is so easy to order online & gets delivered to the island so no lugging heavy groceries on the ferry- yay!!! The prices are very competitive & cheaper than local organic/health food stores & very often cheaper than the chain supermarkets (as there's no middleman). We love the seasonal produce & access to not so common items such as jaboticaba, bunya nuts & black sapote when in season. More $$ goes straight to the farmer & not chain supermarkets. I also love the ability to buy cheaper in bulk, natural cleaning products & they do have a HUGE selection of baked goods, pastas & dairy. Highly recommend checking it out.

I have been using the foodies service on Coochiemudlo Island for several years now.
As well as being healthy and good for the environment with chemical free products and many organics—it is also a family of like-minded people.
It is fun to be part of this innovative group. Straight from the farm to you.

We have been Foodie's members since its inception 7 years ago. What we like about the system is its simplicity. We order online and we get it a couple of days later, simple as that. The buying is done from local Organic growers, who have pride in their product, and are not screwed down by the big food chains. The nice part about that is the prices are similar, if not better than the chain stores, plus the food has not travelled hallway around the country on a truck. Foodies' food is, Fresh, Organic or Spray free, Tasty and good for you and the environment. Eat Fresh, Eat Well, Eat Organic.

Natasha has written a few times on the Coochiemudlo Island FB page. Here are some of her scribbles and photos. Thanks Natasha, you say it so well!
I’m a tad late with my coochiefoodies rave (I have to wait for the inspo) but here it is!
On my mind this morning …
The first is the pleasure it gives me to look at my fridge full of coochiefoodies produce. Coffee beans, raw honey, cream, yogurt, and then heaps of veg. Knowing that most of it arrives at my door (so to speak), directly from farms in our vicinity! WOW, can we comprehend that we, on Coochiemudlo Island, have our very own Co-Op?
It’s a BIG DEAL that we have two experienced and knowledgeable people driving this initiative so very passionately!
It’s the way of the future, and it’s where we’re collectively headed. And our Island is on the ball, walking our talk and helping drive change.
Thank you Gabrielle Austerberry and Russell, again and again.
The other thing I wanted to share (haha, on a very practical note) is a little storage tip. It's not rocket science but it's incredibly effective.
I, historically, found that produce like celery, coriander, basically, all the leafy stuff, wilt within 2-3 days. But, if you tub it and line the tubs with a cotton dishtowel, it stays completely fresh for ages. I mean ages. And, to prevent condensation from the lid I pop a towel on top, too. So, one at the bottom and one on top. Works a charm.
I'm delighted, once again, by my fortnightly CoochieFoods 'innings'...thank you Gabrielle Austerberry and Russell Austerberry for your 'fantabulous' efforts.
I ventured beyond vegetables this time around (even broke a few rules!)...the biodynamic organic Mungali yogurt has a rich creamy texture, with a yellowness only seen in super-fresh unhomogenized milk - it's totally delicious!
And tonight I'm using the organic chicken - I'm making char-grilled chicken breast salad, with chicken marinated in a fragrant sweet 'n spicy yogurt sauce.....
Thank you CoochieFoodies for giving me options on the island, peace of mind, and a fridge bulging with pure goodness!! Blessings x
In case you’re not aware, my contribution to our island Co-Op, Coochiefoodies, is to regularly post my thoughts, feelings, and experiences related to this amazing service.
So, yesterday early evening, I make my fortnightly trip to the pick-up point at Gindabara.
Again, I’m delightfully struck by the bustling activity and general beehive buz. I’m met first by Heather, who hollers a hello whilst munching on crunchy fresh beans. (Haha, I knew they were crunchy because I could ‘hear’ them) We do a quick catch up and she holds out her bag of beans, like a bag of crisps, saying, you must taste these, they’re just amazing! And they were!
Her Collie gets an offering too.
There are new faces, people signing up, volunteers loading vehicles for delivery, and generally helping around. Organized chaos as Gabrielle Austerberry calls it.
Back home I unpack everything and undertake my meditative ritual of chopping, tubbing, and re-organizing my fridge, to accommodate my fresh foods.
I take some photos and pause, for a few moments, in awe of the good-looking greens. C’mon…who wouldn’t be? Knowing what this means to my body…antioxidants, live digestive enzymes, and trace elements, galore!
A good friend is currently preparing to undertake a heavy metal detox protocol and fresh cilantro (coriander) is a vital component. Where else would one get super fresh, organic, and ginormous bunches of coriander, arriving on one’s island? And at an unbeatable price!
