Ellen Korman Mains

The daughter of Polish-born Jews who survived the Holocaust, Ellen met Tibetan Buddhist meditation master, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1971 and studied with him until his death in 1987. She has been a senior teacher within the Shambhala community since the 1970s, integrating various forms of body-mind synchronization and healing with the Buddhist and Shambhala teachings.

The first of these integrations included deep training in Kyudo, “the way of the bow” as a student of Shibata Kanjuro, Sensei, 20 th generation Bow Maker to the Emperor of Japan, who arrived in the U.S. in 1980 at Trungpa Rinpoche’s invitation. Ellen has taught Kyudo at Naropa University and internationally and was Executive Director of its educational organization. Not only an explicit training for joining or synchronizing body and mind, heaven and earth, in the present moment, Kyudo expresses the deep heart qualities of beauty, power and non-thought.
