Herbert Elsky

Herbert Elsky is an American artist who met Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche in 1971, became his student, and was a founding member of the Los Angeles meditation center named Dharmadhatu, later becoming the Shambhala center.

He is a senior teacher in the Shambhala Buddhist tradition and he has taught meditation, Shambhala Training, and Dharma Art in America and Europe for over forty years. 

He has been a student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche  for more than fifty years.

He moved to Europe in 1995 with his wife Catherine, who is an architect to renovate the chateau which is now the Dechen Choling international Meditation Retreat Center.

In the U.S. he created and exhibited transparent sculptures made of polyester resin for more than twenty five years until he moved to France. His sculptures are included in many public and private collections.

After moving to France his  work changed dramatically. During the winter of 2004 he created the Théâtre Las Balubas, a theatre/sound installation for performing sound compositions he calls, "Sound Journeys".

He regularly performs with professional performing artists who come to improvise with him and create concerts.
