Preparing For Independent Learning
Completing your Connect Care basic training is done independently online utilizing web based resources within the AHS secure domain. To access these resources you must have an active AHS login, remote network access, and Citrix installed on the computer you will be using to complete your training.
Outlined below is information regarding each of these
AHS login
Remote Access
MyLearningLink
Citrix
AHS Login Username and Password
All training, communication, and access to Connect Care is associated with your AHS username and password.
The Academic Medical Affairs team for your zone (Edmonton Zone or Calgary Zone) will create your AHS identification and provide that to you.
Remote Access
Remote access refers to any access to a clinical information system from outside the Alberta Health Services (AHS) network. Remote access from a non-AHS facility/network, from home, or from a cellular network require additional security in the form of "two factor" authentication.
You will be provide remote network access well in advance of your start date.
Information to activate remote access will be sent directly to you
Activating Remote Access
Once remote access permissions have been assigned to your AHS credentials, instructions will be sent via email from remoteaccess@ahs.ca.
The email is sent to your personal email address and will contain a link to download a "SecurID" security certificate.
It is important to open the email from the mobile device (Apple or Android smartphone) that will be used to facilitate remote access. This ensures that the security certificate is installed on the mobile (not desktop) device; a security certificate can be installed only once and on only one device.
To complete the soft FOB process a SecurID application is downloaded and installed on the smartphone.
Instructions are included in a separate email from the one containing the SecurID certificate.
Once installed and configured, the SecurID App facilitates two-factor authentication as an extra measure of security for gaining remote access to AHS information assets.
Accessing MyLearningLink
MyLearningLink facilitates the registration, scheduling, delivery, completion tracking and assessments (End User Proficiency Assessments, or EUPAs) for Connect Care training.
A valid AHS username and password is needed. If connecting to MLL from outside an AHS network, there may be two logon steps; one to get in to the AHS network and a second to log on to MLL.
MLL is optimized for Windows computers on AHS networks. Prescribers using personal desktop or laptop devices should use Microsoft Internet Explorer or Edge on Windows computers and Google Chrome on Macintosh computers. Safari should not be used.
When you login to MyLearningLink you will see a number of courses listed in the Required Courses section. Courses are grouped together under the headings of Instructor Led Training (ILT), Independent Learning, and eLearning Before Class. While these are listed as Required Courses, you do not have to complete all of these courses:
You do not have to register for an ILT session.
eLearning - Before Class provide a helpful orientation to Connect Care, but completing them is not required for access to Connect Care.
Residents and Fellows are asked to complete the CMIO Independent Learning course for their specialty. More information about completing the independent learning course for your specialty is available by going to the Basic Training Navigator.
Citrix installed on your computer
