Dear Members of the Board,
As a tenured faculty member with more than fifteen years of service at Wenatchee Valley College, I am writing out of deep concern for the current state of our institution. I care deeply about this college, our students, and our community, and it is disheartening to witness the dysfunction that has emerged under the current administration.
Over the past three years, President Harrison has repeatedly attributed institutional challenges to prior leadership while asserting that the college is now on a better path. Unfortunately, this claim is not reflected in the lived experience of many employees. Morale across campus is low, communication is strained, and the sense of trust and shared purpose that once defined WVC has eroded.
A major concern among faculty and staff is the lack of consistent presence and engagement from the President. Dr. Harrison has often explained his absence from campus as necessary for representing WVC at the state level. While advocacy in Olympia is important, leadership requires a balance of external representation and internal stewardship. The disconnect between the President’s office and the day-to-day realities of the college has left employees feeling unsupported and unheard.
Additionally, there have been multiple reports of unprofessional conduct and hostile work environments that have gone unaddressed. This has led to a troubling amount of turnover among talented and dedicated employees, placing additional burdens on those who remain. The cumulative effect is a toxic climate that undermines our mission and our ability to serve students effectively.
For the health and future of Wenatchee Valley College, I respectfully urge the Board to thoroughly evaluate the current leadership and consider new direction for the presidency. Our college and our community deserve strong, transparent, and compassionate leadership that restores trust, stability, and a shared vision.
Sincerely,
A Concerned Tenured Faculty Member
