Assignment 2

Goal:

  • to practice making correct exposures while varying depth of field, using manual controls on your camera

Turn in:

  • 9 photos with captions

Guidelines:

  • you should photograph three different subjects/scenes

  • For Subject 1, you should have 3 photos that vary the depth of field of the image using aperture. Shoot from the same spot and use the same focal length, only change the aperture (and shutter speed for exposure adjustment).

  • For Subject 2, you should have 3 photos that vary the depth of field of the image using focal length. Shoot from the same spot and use the same aperture, only change the focal length.

  • For Subject 3, you should have 3 photos that vary the depth of field of the image using relative distance. Use the same focal length and the same aperture, only change your physical position relative to the subject.

  • Hint: It is easier to demonstrate variations in depth of field when the frame includes several objects at different distances from the camera.

  • you should ONLY use manual controls

  • you should adhere to photojournalistic standards and ethics

  • you should NOT edit your photos AT ALL.

Grading:

  • this assignment is worth 50 points within your “Photo Assignments” category
