Friend Ko, Teacher Ko

The project has already completed the Training Module for tutors last August 2017 and tutors were given the capability training. Currently, the proponents have already matched tutees for each of the trained tutors. The tutorial sessions will then commence during the 2nd grading period. For each grade level, there were 15 trained tutors and each is paired with one tutee identified as low-performing by the classroom adviser as well as the year level coordinator.

Phase 2 of the project aims to continue the tutorial activity which will happen in the school’s former library. The proponents will prepare the structure with the help of the teachers and tutors. The library is the home of the tutors and tutees during the year-round tutorial sessions. With the series of monitoring and evaluation, the project implementers shall identify if the objectives are effectively carried out and if expected outputs and outcomes are realized. It will also direct the proponents for possible activities that would supplement and enrich the competencies of the trained tutors if found out that the trainings conducted for them are not that effective. Developmentally-appropriate strategies and interventions will be done to address targeted problems between and among tutors and tutees. Consequently, best practices and approaches that contribute to the achievement of the goal shall be determined which can become the basis for project’s replications and for the conceptualization of related projects.

The project seeks to sustain the increase of the academic performance of high school students in Nangka National High School. In addition, this project also seeks to create a continue tutoring program with the help of school leaders, teachers, parents and students;supervise the implementation of the tutorial sessions;mentor the tutors as the peer tutoring program progresses;evaluate the effectiveness of the program; andturn over the program to the school for sustainability purposes

The beneficiaries are the junior high school students of Nangka National High School in Brgy. Nangka, Balamban, Cebu. There are 64 tutors that were trained by the proponents on how to mentor 64 low-performing students (128 beneficiaries all in all). The proponents will also include the Grade 7 top performing students since the Grade 10 will be in Senior high school. Peer mentoring will be followed. The Grade 8-10 tutors will mentor the new tutors.
