A Peer Facilitator Drug Prevention Program for the High School Students of Pulpogan National High School, Consolacion, Cebu

This extension project aims to provide a holistically-designed drug prevention program for high school students in Barangay Pulpogan, Consolacion in central Cebu. The two-year program caters to 40 high school students who will be trained to become peer facilitators for young individuals at risk of drug abuse and addiction. These students will undergo emotional, intellectual and spiritual seminars, workshops and team-building activities, physical and recreational activities to aid them in becoming effective mentors as peer facilitators by 2020.

The extension project aims to establish a drug prevention program in Pulpogan National High School in Pulpogan, Consolacion, where high school students are trained to become effective peer facilitators to young individuals. Specifically, the project seeks to provide a variety of learning opportunities through seminars, workshops and team-building activities on the following matters: (1) the effects of drugs and other addiction substances to the adolescent development, (2) the role of family, peers and the community on drug addiction prevention, (3) the relationship of problem solving, communication, decision-making and stress management skills on drug addiction deterrence, (4) the benefits of spiritual awareness, and (5)the importance of recreational activities. Moreover, conduct learning opportunities on identifying, approaching and encouraging suspected individuals at risk of drug addiction.

The primary beneficiaries of the extension program are the 40 identified high school students of Pulpogan National High School in Pulpogan, Consolacion, Cebu. These students come from the five sections of Grade 7 level in the school. They are selected to be trained as peer facilitators during the Youth Sembreak Camp, wherein they undergo a series of learning opportunities, such as seminars, workshops, team-building and recreational activities. These students will not only become peer facilitators to students at risk of drug addiction, but will also become drug prevention program recipients, therefore lessening their chance of becoming drug addicts themselves. Ultimately, the holistic education program will them go through life in right and virtuous direction.
