DAV is a nonprofit charity that provides a lifetime of support for veterans of all generations and their families, helping more than 1 million veterans in positive, life-changing ways each year.
A united voice for the LGBTQ military and veteran community — our modern military families.
It’s estimated that over 134,000 American veterans are transgender, and over 15,000 trans people are serving in military today. Find out more about advances and challenges for transgender veterans and service members, and how to get support.
TAVA engages with members, governmental agencies, other advocacy groups, media and the public in order to ensure our members receive full services and dignified treatment by promoting the values of equality, fairness and respect on behalf of our members and provide a supportive community for Veterans who identify under the “Transgender Umbrella”.
The Department of Veteran Affairs is dedicated to serving all eligible service members, Veterans and their families. It also recognizes the existing diversity within this population, including the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. VA is committed to providing outreach to diverse service member and Veteran populations and has provided guidance on how under current Federal law VA may recognize marriage.
