Congratulations!

The 60th annual conference of the Chinese Language Teachers Association (CLTA) in St. Louis honored Professor Yea-fen Chen from Indiana University with the Outstanding Contribution Award! Additionally, Logansport High School, home to teachers Chunmei Guan and Yi-Chun Lin, received the Distinguished K-12 Chinese Program award. Furthermore, Yingling Bao, a senior lecturer at Indiana University, won the First Prize for the BLCUP Innovative Excellence in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. Congratulations to all! 

IFLTA - Conference 2017 Information and Call for Proposals

Dear Colleagues, 

I want to invite you to submit a proposal to present a session or a workshop at this year's IFLTA conference, which will be held November 2 - 4, 2017 in the Sheraton at Keystone Crossing in Indianapolis. As you know, each year our members are the heart of the conference, sharing your expertise, your experience, and your ideas! 

Our theme this year is "Connect, Engage, Inspire: Languages Open Doors."  We are reminded on a daily basis that by connecting to our students and to fellow teachers, we might engage everyone and inspire them to use languages to open up new opportunities and discover new cultures and experiences. 

In honor of this theme, we have tentatively lined up our keynote speaker this year--Bill VanPatten from Michigan State University.  Dr. VanPatten is a professor of Second Language Acquisition with a focus on language learning and teaching.  He is an internationally known scholar, Spanish textbook author, researcher, and author of several books on a wide range of topics in linguistics.  He is a dynamic teacher and world language advocate and is well-known for his popular podcast "Tea with BVP".  We're thrilled and honored to have him come to IFLTA this year!

Please consider sharing what you know about teaching with your fellow Indiana educators at IFLTA this year. It's your willingness to do just that that makes our conference a success each year! As we did at last year's very successful conference, we invite you to submit a proposal for a regular session (45 minutes) or for a workshop (75 minutes). 

You may submit your proposal online, through the IFLTA website, at www.iflta.org. The form is easy to fill out and it's available now. Proposals will be accepted through July 15, 2017. (Notices of acceptance will be sent via e-mail in mid-August.) 

Please be in touch if you have questions about submitting a proposal. You can also look at the "Presenter Guidelines" document (available on the webpage) for information you might find useful as you're preparing your session or workshop proposal.
