Hiking Tips
Check the weather forecast, do not go for hiking when there is thunderstorm. Even if there is calm before you go, thunderstorm is very dangerous, mainly because of lightning. When there is no thunderstorm, only rain. If it is not heavy raining, and you are not going to the routes near the stream, it is quite safe for hiking provided that you have appropriate equipment.
Plan the correct route - pay attention to the path after heavy rain. In summer, do not walk close or swim in the stream after continuous rainy days, you are in high risk to encounter flash floods.
Bring plenty of water. It is very humid in Hong Kong. We usually sweat a lot, so we need more water and minerals. If there is no water supply in the middle of the route, it is safe to bring 1 to 2 liters of water. Or bring a small water filter, but make sure that there is water source along the way. In the days with high temperatures, you need more water. Then a water bladder inserted in a backpack is more convenient. The maximum capacity of a water bladder is 3 liters.
Bring food. Energy supplement like energy chew, gel or bar can help replenish energy quickly.
Heat exhaustion and heat stroke accidents are most common in Hong Kong because of dehydration and lack of sunscreen protection. Sunglasses, sun hat and sunscreen are required.
