Camping Tips

  1. Choose lightweight packing food, no bones and no cans can save you a lot of weight! If you can, do not choose the food with too many individual packages. Don’t bring too much food that you can’t eat all of them. Reduce all unnecessary packages and then repackage the food by reusable zip-lock bags.
  2. Avoid peak holidays, weekend and Sunday.
  3. Keep to small groups of just one or two tents to keep noise and disturbance levels down. Pitch late and leave early can reduce disturbance to wildlife and other people.
  4. Choose flat ground to pitch your tent, be aware of wind direction. As it may rain suddenly in Hong Kong, avoid camping on exposed ridges or hilltops.
  5. Not all camp area has toilet, then use a trowel to bury human waste at least 30 meters away from rivers or streams. Learn how to make “cat hole”.
  6. Use stove rather than lighting camp fire, it is safer and leaves no burnt earth. It also prevents wild fire.
  7. Before sleeping, keep all food and food trash in sealed bags. Put them in your tent vestibule, so as not to attract wild animals.
  8. A set of good sleeping mat can keep you insulated, while a good sleeping bag can help you breathe and transpire your perspiration out of it. When sleeping in a sleeping bag, wear as few clothes on as possible. Wearing too much clothes, the moisture wets clothes and makes you cold.
