From the State Historical Society of North Dakota:

This press was used to print the Lidgerwood Broadaxe, Lidgerwood, North Dakota from December 29, 1887, until 1899, when it was taken to Mercer county by John Young (1872-1954), editor of the newspaper at Mannhaven, North Dakota. It was taken by rail to Bismarck, and to Mannhaven by boat. Young used the press to print, Wact am Missouri and then the Mannhaven Journal. Young served in the North Dakota House, 1909-10, and the North Dakota Senate, 1911-18.

The press was sold in 1903 to Eastman and Hanson, who then sold it to Otto Schreiber, where it was moved to Stanton in 1906 to print the Mercer County Republican. In 1907 the paper and press and were sold to C.F. Schweigert. From 1913 to 1928 the press was in Beulah to print the Beulah Independent.

The press was acquired by the C.I. Johnson company of Minneapolis in 1928, and they presented it to the University of North Dakota to print the Dakota Student. In 1935 the press was cleaned, painted, repaired, and moved to the UND Museum.

In 1947, when the UND Museum was dis-banded, Elywn B. Robinson acquired the press and had it transported to the State Historical Society of North Dakota. It was stored in the wood storage building at Fort A. Lincoln State Park until 1971, when it was moved into the new storage building.
