We acquired the press in the early summer of 2002. The donor was Beatrice "Bea" Alexander Collins, who is now deceased. Bea's father, Harmon Alexander, bought the two newspapers in Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee, in 1913. They were the Winchester Truth and Winchester Herald, so Mr. Alexander combined them to become the Truth and Herald. The current newspaper "descendent" is called the Herald Chronicle. Bea believed the press was in one of the newspaper offices when her father bought the papers.
When the Falls Mill acquired the press, it was missing several key parts. Photographs and measurements were obtained from the press at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, and wooden foundry patterns were made for casting done at Bell Novelty Casting in Anniston, Alabama. The press was fully restored in 2021, and is now in operable condition.
