The main technology I use for my teaching and communication with students is UWC's platform, iKamva. Through iKamva, I upload my slides for the lectures before the week's start, as well as the module outlines, lecture schedules and additional readings. I also make use of iKamva's announcement feature to communicate and remind students about upcoming due dates. Finally, I have used iKamva's assessment tool for class tests in ECO335. This minimizes my marking and also gives prompt feedback to the students. The class tests form part of the formative assessments which makes prompt feedback essential.
I have also used Google Drive for the submission of essays and the CMap tool to summarize the various models in the courses taught.
In future, I would like to make use of Clickers for in-class assessments and for immediate feedback. Given the immediate feedback, the student's lack of understanding can be identified more quickly and addressed in the lectures.
During the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, all courses were shifted online and this ensured the use of more tools on iKamva including "Tests&Quizzes", "Lessons", file uploading and online assessments. It also enabled me to create videos of lectures that can be used in the future to move to the flipped-classroom experience where application rather than theory is taught during lecture times.
In 2022, I continued with more technologies integrated and expected the ECO739 students to complete Google Sheets on the group work completed and created videos for this both on mobile devices and laptops. I also created videos to help students upload their assessments to iKamva's Assignments and Drop Box options.
