Name: William Lam
Officer Position: Vice President
About Me: A chess enthusiast that enjoys the different tactics and train of though brought up by chess. I enjoy how chess brings people together and am always happy to share the joy of chess. Tournaments are usually my favorite type of meeting because of how many different styles I get to see.
Professional/Chess Experience: I like to play chess with my uncle and online. I usually play the Italian and Queen's gambit, but am always open to learn new openings and tactics. In my spare time from the Chess Club at UCR, I also like to help tutor elementary kids on chess through the Day and Knight Chess Club. I love showing kids how the knight moves because there is always a lot of confusion about the "L movement".
Current Goals in Chess Club: I am excited to contribute to the logistics and planning of Chess Club events. I love to problem solve and work to support Chess Club's mission of a fun and inclusive environment to play chess. As Vice President, I am most interested about getting new players involved in chess and trying different chess variants with members.
Fun Fact: A fun fact about me is that I am forklift certified! This is in case we ever get a life sized chess set.
