Under Michael's tenure, he organized some of the largest chess tournaments to date - including two intercollegiate chess tournaments. He was also the principal artist of the Highlander Chess set and created an award winning t-shirt design that went through multiple printings through successful grants sponsored by ASPB and ASUCR. At the end of his tenure, he coordinated club activities to ensure a successful transition into a digital environment. In 2020, Michael Tang became the second officer from Chess Club at UCR to be recognized as a finalist for the award, President of the Year. Out of nearly five hundred organizations, he was named as the runner-up for President of the Year.
