Nokomis Jacob Rose entered the Army (not sure if he volunteered or was drafted) on September 10, 1942 in Charlottesville, VA, service #33212378. During WWII, he served in the Pacific in New Guinea, the Philippines, and post-war in Tokyo. After being discharged in late December 1945 or January 1946, he returned to Waynesboro. In December 1950, he enlisted again in the Army and was sent to Korea in January 1951, where he served with Co. K, 3d Battalion, 9th Regiment, 2d Infantry Division. On 12 February 1951, PFC Rose was reported missing in action. In March 1954, the Army officially declared him dead. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency lists him as a Prisoner of War, Unaccounted For. He remains missing. https://www.dpaa.mil/portals/85/KoreaAccounting/pmkor_una_VIRGINIA_20210129.pdf
He is listed on the Augusta County Courthouse memorial plaque for Korea and Vietnam.
