This book is a simple guide to keep handy while writing reports or papers in English. The book is divided into seven sections that offer explanations for different aspects of English writing. The explanations for all sections are written in Japanese, followed by examples of academic texts in English and Japanese. These examples are written in such a way as to understand the difference between sentence constructions and the usage of phrases in English and Japanese. Each section contains short exercises for practice. Rather than a lesson on grammar, there are tips and tricks for making the writing strong and clear to the reader, such as using strong verbs, constructing short sentences, arranging the elements of sentences in the right manner, etc. This book can be referred to not only while writing but also while reading academic texts to understand the principles the writer may have used and follow similar steps while writing your own texts.  

本書は英語のレポート・論文執筆に便利です。本書は7つのセクションで構成されていて、各セクションにてアカデミックライティングの要素について説明されています。説明は日本語で書かれていて、英語と日本語の例があげられています。例によって、英語と日本語の書き方・フレーズの使い方が非常にわかりやすく理解できます。また、各セクションに練習問題も含まれています。文法というよりも、ライティングにおいて、簡潔に伝わるコツが書枯れています。例えば、強い動詞の使い方、受動態と能動態の使い分け、主語の設定などです。本書は、書くときだけでなく、論文を読むときにも参考になります。

As the name suggests, this book is the perfect guide to academic writing for students struggling to write in English. The book is divided into two parts, essay writing, and research-related writing. The essay writing section describes the basics of writing and tips on writing each individual section of the essay, right from the introduction to the summary of the essay. It also has chapters on how to maintain the flow of writing, the usage of conjunctions, and writing assertive and non-assertive statements. All of these sections are well explained concisely with illustrative examples. The second section on paper and thesis writing follows a similar pattern. It has sections on different writing components, i.e., introduction, methodology, findings, conclusion, etc. Each section has plenty of exercises for practice, which helps the reader confirm their understanding of the lesson. 

タイトルの通り、本書は大学生に役立つガイドです。2セクションに分かれており、エッセイと論文の執筆について書かれています。エッセイのセクションには、ライティングの基本について書かれています。英文の流れ、ディスコース、パラグラフのまとめ方等について説明と例文があるため、わかりやすいです。最後に練習問題で理解を確認することもできます。
