During the course you will learn and practice, man overboard recovery, mooring and anchoring under sail and power.
Departure and arrival from alongside berths in a variety of different situations will further develop the new skippers organizational and crew managment abilities.
Achieving the Day Skipper Practical award recognizes the candidates ability to skipper a small yacht in familiar waters, in moderate weather, in day light.
The qualification is frequently requested by charter companies, and also holders are entitled to apply for an International Certificate of Competence (ICC).
The training boat, Driac (pronounced Dry-ack) is a classic yacht built in 1930 operating out of Milford Haven.
She is bermudian rigged and fully modern in the way she sails, but has the atmosphere and character which can only be experienced in a classic wooden sailing vessel.
She has only 5 berths so you will never have more than a 4:1 teaching ratio.
Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, Wales is one of the great natural harbours of the world, with its busy port, marinas, quiet anchorages, dramatic coast and islands to visit.
The Haven is also perfectly placed for cruising the Pembrokeshire coast.

It can also be combined with 4 days Day Skipper theory, offered as Day Skipper Intensive.
The 9 day course from Saturday to the following Sunday will get the enthusiastic student quickly to Day Skipper standard, with both practical and theory certificates achievable.

This course is a introduction to chart work, navigation, seamanship and meteorology.
It deals with tidal heights and streams and their effect on you course and also the rules of the road for yachts at sea.

This course starts by looking at the practical operation of a standard Marine VHF, Channel usage, Distress/Urgency/Safety and routine voice procedures.
On successful completion, you will be awarded a licence allowing you to legally operate a VHF/DSC radio.
