KEYNOTE
Sequoia Thompson
Coordinator | Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation LA
Senior Trainer | LBQ Women's Health Collaborative
Sequoia is a Senior Trainer for the Los Angeles County Lesbian Bisexual and Queer Women’s Health Collaborative. She has presented as a Motivational Speaker and Cultural Humility Trainer for Professional Development at various organizations such as The American Heart Association and The Department of Public Health.
Sequoia has experience facilitating interactive dialogue about intersectionality, gender identity, dismantling white supremacy, and has spoken on international panels including the 2017 Opportunities for a more Inclusive Higher Education with the former Dutch Minister of Education, Jet Bussemaker at Universiteit Van Amsterdam. Sequoia incorporates storytelling to humanize the difficult discussions that individuals and society at large are not having. This pairing of storytelling and administrative decolonizing creates a powerfully impactful ambiance for transformational and sustainable change.
Sequoia graduated from UCLA with her BA in Psychology and LGBTQ+ Studies where she was awarded the Rae Lee Siporin LGBT Leadership Award for Outstanding leadership and service to the UCLA LGBT community at her Lavender Graduation. Sequoia is an ardent advocate for mental health and incorporates her journey through Major Depressive Disorder to empower those who may not have the resources to understand the condition and thrive through and with it!
Sequoia is passionate about social justice and BIPOC/QTPOC advocacy. She wants to continue to be a part of healing the hearts of those affected by systemic anti-Black racism, challenge the institutions who overtly and/or covertly perpetuate it, and continue to challenge ourselves so we don’t perpetuate this systemic plague that separates us.

Teddi Alvarez
Los Angeles Valley College Student
Hello everyone! My name is Teddi Perez (Pronouns They/Them)
I’m a Sociology major focusing mainly in Gender Studies at LAVC. I’m also an alumni of MOC SITE 2019 ( Men of Color ), part of CCCP. As a Transfer student and a Queer POC, one of my many goals that I have set for myself is to empower through education, and self-healing/self-care for my Queer community and community college students, showing how much power we have within by being part of the Queer community and other “different” communities in life.

Why did you join the CCCP QTBIPOC Transfer Experience Planning Committee?
The moment I heard about the committee and saw the opportunity to join, I knew that I had to because this experience is something that I really would have needed as a community college student. Although it wasn’t around while I was at CC, I am so glad to have participated in planning this webinar because it is important to show students who are QTBIPOC that resources and spaces exist for us, not just to support us, but to provide security and community as well<3
